Hrithik Roshan: Decade indeed belongs to him

Analysis of the present decade of Hindi cinema- part 3

Source :: Glamsham

As a part of the ongoing series on the decade of Indian cinema, here is the third feature in the series on Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik Roshan in fact created new paradigms on acting and in a way stood as the tallest star for the decade. The decade indeed belongs to him and here is an analysis of his performance for the decade.

Hrithik Roshan: Decade indeed belongs to him

Bursting on the horizon of the decade like a comet star, in 2000 with his debut film KAHO NA PYAAR HAI, Hrithik Roshan stamped his authority on the decade with a peach of performance in JODHAA AKBAR. Indeed therefore the present decade belongs to him as it saw his evolution from being a lover boy to be able to portray a historical character of the likes of Akbar with such conviction as to sweep the awards for his performance.

Hrithik Roshan gave a new meaning to dance in Indian cinema when he made his debut in KAHO NAA PYAAR HAIN and he continues to mesmerize the Indian audience with the same gravity defying moves that have become his leit motif. He could also be one of the few stars whose dance moves have also been incorporated in series of advertisements that he features in.

KAHO NAA PYARR HAI established the record of bagging 102 awards, a feat no other film has repeated so far. Another hallmark of Hrithik Roshan has been his conviction to carve his image more as a consummate actor rather than as a star. Therefore in the wake of KAHO NA PYAAR HAI he went on to portray the character of a Muslim boy who is forced to walk to other side of the law with panache both in FIZA as also in MISSION KASHMIR. History is not replete with any such example where an actor has literally deconstructed himself after a phenomenally successful film KAHO NAA PYAAR HAI to have the courage to play the characters like he did in FIZA and MISSION KASHMIR with which a silent minority of the country empathizes.

It was again the same conviction, which was the guiding factor in playing a supporting role to Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM. No other top star would have condescended to play a second fiddle to Shah Rukh and Big B but Hrithik being a passionate convert to the craft of films, did not gave it any iota of thought.

2003 again saw Hrithik Roshan sweeping the box office once again with KOI MIL GAYA the first real sci-fi film from Bollywood where Hrithik did not have any doubts whatsoever to play the role of a mentally retarded child. No wonder he became the first star to have won the Filmfare award as the best actor as also the critics award for the same film.

Not resting on the laurels of KOI MIL GAYA Hrithik Roshan again deconstructed himself with LAKHSYA where he played the role of an aimless boy who finds his moorings in the army. It indeed is one of the least emphasized facts that the aimlessness of the youth of the present times that Hrithik played with conviction in LAKHSYA. No wonder when Zoya Akhtar debuted into the world of Hindi cinema, it was the box-office draw of Hrithik Roshan that was capitalized by Zoya as her brother Farhan Akhtar did it earlier.

DHOOM-2 took Hrithik Roshan to a higher platform and he gave the industry one of the most enigmatic pairing of the Hindi cinema in the recent times that of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan and he literally made the audience eat out of his hands. It was also for the first time that Aishwarya Rai gave her on-screen kiss with Hrithik Roshan. The chemistry that too displayed on the screen was probably the point of inspiration for Ashutosh Gowarikar to dabble in a controversial subject of JODHAA AKBAR but Ashutosh Gowarikar was proved right when JODHAA AKBAR became one of the first historical films after MUGHAL-E-AZAM to mesmerize the audience with its miasma. The decade for Hrithik Roshan therefore came to a befitting climax and the new decade has indeed exciting possibilities as his first international film KITES is going to be released shortly, to be followed by GUZAARISH where he is again paired with Aishwarya Rai. There indeed is no doubt that Hrithik Roshan would continue to rule in the next decade as well.

Shekhar Kapur admires HRITHIK

Source :: IndiaTimes

Hrithik’s secret admirer!

With Jodhaa Akbar, Hrithik Roshan proved that he is one of the finest actors of Indian cinema. Bollywood’s biggest filmmakers are either, working, wanting to work or waiting to work with our Roshan Jr..

One such filmmaker fan of Hrithik Roshan happens to be renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. Shekhar who’s known to work on extremely ambitious and epic projects has now expressed his desire of working with Hrithik Roshan.

Without divulging any details, Shekhar had made his wish public by writing it on a social networking site asking his fans what role should he offer to Hrithik!”

Hrithik too is tight lipped about Shekhar’s admiration for him. Many wonder what this project is going to be and we too will have to wait and watch.

One thing is for sure though; Hrithik Roshan is fast picking up on his overseas fan following so in case Shekhar is thinking of an Indo-American project, Duggu is the just right choice baby!

Anurag clears the air on Kites release

SOurce :: StarBoxOffice

Kites, the bilingual film which stars Hrithikh Roshan alongside sexy siren Barabara Mori and Kangna Ranaut is in post production these days

We got in touch with the director Anurag Basu on reasons why is it taking so long to make this film?

Kites has been shelved again now, the film was earlier supposed to release on Diwali then in December and now its one month left for 2010 and still a date for release has not been fixed. There was quite a big buzz around it in all of 2009 - a Hrithik-Barbara dalliance, then the rift, and one big fight between the director Anurag Basu and producer Rakesh Roshan. All of this helped to keep the film in the news all year long.

So we asked director Anurag what’s the actual problem with the constant delay? To which he replied "It's true that Kites has been shelved for very long now but its because of the post production work. Shooting is complete and now we are busy with the post-production work of the film. We have got on board a reputed Hollywood editor to re-edit Kites. The Indian version of Kites is already ready but the international version is being edited by a Hollywood editor simply because there is a difference between Hollywood sensibilities and Bollywood sensibilities. For the international version, some scenes will be edited and we’ll need to do away with some songs as we obviously can’t release Kites with the same running time abroad."

Anurag Basu always finishes his film in a very short time but Kites has been his longest film ever “Yes Kites by my standards has taken the longest time. But Film Craft has made films like that forever. With Rakesh ji I learnt a new style of film making. He plans his film, goes to the location in advance and he basically spends more time in the pre and post production of his films and believes in a lot of planning while I play by ear. I decide one shot when I am there on the field. And we have so many international crew members too so it has taken a lot of time to make Kites."

Hrithik hasn't had a release in over a year now, about which we asked Anurag, if Kites will break the jinx soon. Anurag is tight-lipped, only ready to confirm that the film should be out in January 2010, hopefully before Valentine's Day in February if it stretches that far. We hope this is the final word, and the new year begins with a bang
