Hrithik shows SRK Kites

Source:: Starboxoffice

Hrithik Roshan held a special screening of the film Kites for his new best mate in the industry, Shah Rukh Khan. Held late on Sunday night, SRK was Roshan’s only guest.

“Very few people have been allowed to see the complete movie. But Hrithik was quite keen to get SRK’s feedback on the movie. And so he asked SRK if he would come over to check it out,” says our source.

It is believed that Roshan wanted some marketing tips from Khan, as well as wanted to get his genuine opinion on the movie.

“SRK liked the movie a lot, and told Hrithik the same. There were certain suggestions he gave him for the film promotion as well as the premieres the Roshans are planning all over the world,” says the source, “Khan is an actor and also a producer. So, he knows how to think like a businessman too. And that’s why Hrithik wanted to talk to him. The film has already gone well over budget, and now, the people behind it want to make sure that it is a resounding success internationally as well.”

A couple of weeks back, Hrithik had openly suggested that he would like marketing tips from Aamir and Shah Rukh.

"I don't know about the strategy and the marketing side of films. I'm still young in that space and still need to learn from my seniors and people who have inspired me, like Shah Rukh and Aamir," he was quoted saying.

The Hrithik-starrer Kites releases on May 21. The film also stars international actress Barbara Mori and Bollywood actress Kangna Ranaut. It is believed that the film will have two versions – one for India and a racier version for the West. Premieres are being planned for Dubai, London and Mumbai.

West Side Story

Source :: Yahoo

If Kites does well, Rakesh Roshan might just head the Hollywood way

Kites is touted as a mega movie of 2010 and you have two versions to take care of. Is the pressure immense?

Of course. We have entered a new territory, which we are not really familiar with. We are working with people from Los Angeles who are helping us out.

Why did you entrust Anurag Basu with the direction, when you have dished out blockbusters yourself?
During the days when Krissh, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Rang De Basanti were nominated, a film called Gangster too was on the list. I then watched the film and loved it. I asked Anurag to cast Hrithik (Roshan) in his film. He was skeptical because he had only done small-budget films. I narrated the story of Kites to him and asked him if he wanted to direct it. He came back in a month with around 30 to 40 scenes. When he narrated the sequence of scenes I was blown over. The final output was better than what I expected it to be.

So much has been said and written about Barbara Mori. How did you discover her?

The story is that of a Spanish girl who speaks only Spanish and an Indian boy who speaks only English and Hindi. We did not want to cast an Indian actress, because then it would not look real. In LA, I met around two to three actresses, but wasn't convinced. My friend then gave me this Mexican film to watch. And Hrithik, Anurag and I decided to cast her. We wrote to her agency, about our film and her character and send DVDs of our previous films. She wrote back saying, "I will work with you. I like the story and you have a handsome son."

But wouldn't a known face be better?

Barbara is very big in Latin America. If my movie releases over there, we will have a big revenue from there.

How did you convince Brett Ratner to edit your film?

Brett watched Kites and loved it. He thought the edit pattern was right for the Indian sensibility. But for the western audience, he wanted to shorten the length and offered to do the job.

Is the release going to take place simultaneously all over the world?

The Hindi version will release all over the Indian market on the same day. The English version may release one week later in LA, New York, Miami and Dallas. We then have plans of opening it in Latin America, London, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. It is a positive step we have taken and one actually needs guts to do it.

The country has been awaiting a Hrithik Roshan release for long. Will this work in your film's favour?
Long waits are beneficial. Dilip Kumar saab had once told me, "You can do 25-30 films in two years, or over 30 years and do them perfectly." That has stayed in my mind and Hrithik too is subconsciously following it.

Post Kites, are you going to go international or will Krissh 2 take off?

Depends on which way Kites goes. If it flies high, then the whole thinking pattern changes and the international market could be an option. But Krissh is somewhere in my system, along with two to three other stories.

“I’m very passionate in love”

Source : Masala

It’s my first time interviewing Hrithik Roshan, and I expect the star to be, well, star-like. And sure enough, when he enters the lobby of the Grosvenor House where we’re meeting, he’s wearing a star staple – dark sunglasses. But then he does something surprising; he takes the sunnies off (revealing those gorgeous light eyes), says “Hello” with an oh-so-warm smile, and proceeds to speak with a whole lot of genuine humility. I asked Hrithik if he’s had any weird experiences with crazy fans, and he seems slightly stunned by the idea. “There are no weird fan experiences. I see every fan interaction as a huge compliment. The smiles and love that I get from people are what make everything worth it.” So what else makes Hrithik Roshan tick? Read on to find out.

How close is the character you play in ‘Kites’ (of a dance teacher) to you in real-life?

Any creative exercise has to be a reflection of you. It’s how you interpret it. There’s a lot of me in the character I play in ‘Kites’. He’s very passionate in love and so am I.

You’re an amazing dancer. What’s your tip for someone who wants to dance as well as you do?
Just listen to the music and let yourself go. Unless you’re a professional dancer, dancing is not about looking good. It’s about enjoying yourself, about expressing yourself in the moment. The way I see it, there’s no such thing as a non-dancer. I think everyone can dance. You might think you look as foolish as a monkey while dancing, but if you’re enjoying yourself, I’ll be cheering for you.

You and Barbari Mori look great together in the ‘Kites’ promos. What do you think is the secret to great on-screen chemistry?
In ‘Kites’, it’s due to the brief of Anurag Basu (the director of ‘Kites’). He's a sensitive person who's making a very honest film. Also, Barbara comes from a world of spontaneity. She lets her spirit fly. Even Kangana (Ranaut), who’s in the movie, is a mountain girl. She has a sense of abandon and freedom about her. Barbara has a similar approach. I’ve been lucky to have their influence.

Your fans in Dubai were expecting to see you at the Zee Dubai Mega Mela on Thursday (April 1). Why weren't you able to make it on the day?
There was a miscommunication. As far as I knew I was going to be at the Mela on Friday (April 2) and Saturday (April 3). I was at the Mela yesterday and I will be there today.

You’ve had to put on weight and lose it for ‘Guzaarish’, and you’ve also talked about the many injuries you’ve sustained over the years. With all this, do you feel insecure about your body?
Not insecure, but I am aware that it has taken a lot of beating. My body has been really bruised and battered. So I am conscious that I have to be careful. My boys Hrehaan and Hridaan are two and four now. I want to be able to play football with them when they’re 16.

Do your kids watch your movies? Are they aware of what you do?
Hridaan is too young, but Hrehaan is becoming aware that his dad is different from other dads, that he seems more important than other dads. You know he has a Krrish doll that he plays with. I find that weird, my son playing with a doll of me! Sometimes, when I’m injured or tired and lying in bed, he looks at me almost suspiciously, and asks, “You are Krrish Daddy, aren’t you?” (Laughs)

You’ve just made your singing debut in ‘Kites’. In the future, do you see yourself writing and directing like your dad Rakesh Roshan?

No, I don’t. It takes a lot to be a director. I don’t have that kind of talent. You have to be a leader. There are so many things you have to do, from conceiving the project to inspiring it. Being an actor there’s more personal space. But I might change my mind. Never say never!
